GRAND ISLAND — Bill Luft’s collection of military vehicles will be displayed in the parking lot at the Veterans Club on Capital Avenue from noon May 1 to 6 p.m. May 2.

The event is a fund-raiser for Hero Flight and is being done as a Go Big Give event, said Gary Quandt of Grand Island.

As part of the event, Quandt is going to sit in a military vehicle from noon May 1 until 6 p.m. May 2. Veterans have commented how uncomfortable it was to sit in some military vehicles, so that’s what gave Quandt the idea to show support for veterans.

At 2 p.m. May 2, Quandt will give a check for Hero Flight to Heartland United Way Director Karen Rathke.

There is a donor match program. Every donation of $100 or more will be matched by a $25 donation, Quandt said. Also, Texas T-Bone will give a gift certificate to anyone who donates $100 or more, Quandt said. He did not know the amount of the gift certificate.

A number of Hero Flight events have occurred where veterans and their escorts are flown to Washington, D.C., where they tour various sites.
